- Carrier Neutral - wether it is an In-House crossconnect, Layer2 Transport, DWDM Wavelength or Dark Fiber
Location
Located in 63225 Langen, Robert-Bosch-Str. 25, TornadoDC operates a carrier neutral datacenter. With direct reachability through Autobahn A661, S-Bahn Langen-Flugsicherung and in close reach to Frankfurt Airport, the site is well reachable by car, plane and public transportation. Our team of datacenter engineers is available on-site with on-call being available 24x7.
Deliveries
Deliveries shall be made to the following address:
- aurologic GmbH | Customer First5DigitsOfyourCustomerUUID
- c/o Tornado Datacenter
- Robert-Bosch-Str. 25
- 63225 Langen

Please announce any shipment as a ticket, so we know about the same. The datacenter houses storage cabinets which can be utilized to permanently store deliveries. In those regards, be aware that we can not longer store deliveries outside of storage cabinets than 14-days. After 14-days, the delivery is marked as delivered and subsequently, charges are being applied by parcel per kilogram weight stored per month. Current charges are 2,50€ net per month per kilogram.
Cabinet
The facility primarily uses cabinets from Schaefer IT-Systems with a width of 80 cm. We know the odds of smaller cabinets well, therefore our cabinets provide a optimate place for clean and structured cabling of both network and power. Cabinets starting as of 42U (full cabinet) can be equipped with their own locking cylinder, in such a case, aurologic securely stores the secondary key, e.g. in case of the necessity of remote hands or any other maintenance task inside the same. Electronic locking such as a biometric or rfid lock can be installed as well. Please get in touch with our on-site team to discuss the same.
Cooling
In order to supply customer cabinets with cold air, the datacenter has multiple cooling units and cold water generation, keeping the temperature within a regulated range:
- Cold Aisle: ± 22-28°C, usually 25°C
- Warm Aisle: ± 30-38°C, usually 32°C
- Temperature Differential band: ± 5-10°C
The datacenter uses efficient direct free-cooling with two filtration stages, as outlined below:
- Coarse filter to remove dust, debris, and larger airborne particles
- Fine filter to remove fine dust, pollen, and smaller airborne particles
Both filtration stages ensure clean air, free from outside pollution. Supply air is directly blown into the cold aisle containments, cleaning and mixing with recirculation air. Static pressure within the cold aisle containments is variable controlled through electronic controller systems and based on real-time measures collected from a grid of sensors placed in front and back of different cabinets.
In the event of outside temperature increases, the facility uses air-condition units to cool down supply air (trim operation) - or use recirculation air with mechanical cooling exclusively. Given the efficient cooling design, a sustainable PUE of below 1.10 is typically reached.
Power
The datacenter is connected on the 20kV ring grid of the city of Langen and has it's own emergency power generator active on A+B feed. Sufficient fuel to withstand longer power outages and autonomous UPS protection on every feed ensure continous operation. Autonomous in that regards means, that every feed has it's own UPS supplying. Periodic battery maintenance and contractual agreements allow us to ensure a proper power availability. In the event of a power outage originating from the public grid, IT-load is protected initially by the UPS systems. Generator automatically starts within the first second of an outage. The loads such as both IT-load and cooling is transferred onto the pre-heated emergency generator within 20 seconds automatically. Quarterly generator tests with at least 60 minutes load-transfer of the whole datacenter on generator power, documentation of the procedure and handling of anomalies ensures a stable operation when it matters.
Connectivity
Within TornadoDC FRA1, multiple types of network connectivity are available, these are:
- In-House Crossconnect between cabinets and rooms
- IP-Transit at 95/5 percentile per Mbps
- Layer2 Transport (protected over EVPN-VXLan)
- DWDM Wavelength over diverse dark fiber
- Dark fiber through a supplier of your choice - please note, aurologic doesnt provide dark fiber - we provide the in-house crossconnect
In-House Crossconnect
Customers can connect their own cabinets as well as to other parties within the datacenter. Different media and connector types are available, these are:
- Copper with RJ45-RJ45 connector
- OS2 Singlemode with LC-LC connector
- OM3/4 Multimode with LC-LC connector
- OM3/4 Multimode with MPO-MPO connector (8-fiber)
Other media types are available on request and availability.
IP-Transit
aurologic operates AS30823 and therefore a extensive, well connected network based on a selected Tier-1 Upstream as well as Peering mix. With massive capacity of over 10 Tbps, sufficient bandwidth is available for DDoS-Protection and traffic spikes. The FFM1 site (Tornado Datacenter FRA1) offers diverse dark fiber connectivity to carrier connectivity datacenters in Frankfurt am Main.
Both Default and Fulltable BGP-Sessions are available to customers. aurologic can also announce your prefixes - either on our AS-Number or from yours. Available interfaces are 1G/10G/25G/40G/100G/400G or multiple of the same.
Layer2 Transport
Customers can use Layer2 Transport to connect a variety of different networks at Digital Realty and Equinix Frankfurt datacenters. aurologic runs dark fiber interconnected core routing equipment at both sites, allowing to easily connect other parties.
Layer2 Transport is by default fault-protected at a n+1 ratio through EVPN-VXLan diversified routing. Other than a DWDM Wavelength or Dark Fiber, it offers in-built redundancy on the transport network. In most cases, it's therefore the more cost effective solution without the need of investing on your own into specialized transport equipment and redundancy. Also the need of housing your own equipment at Digital Realty and Equinix Frankfurt is fully eliminated.
aurologic manages the transport layer, customers can easily increase capacity and connections to third parties. An MTU of 9200 is guaranteed and allows even to run your own overlay network.
DWDM Wavelength
Towards both Digital Realty and Equinix Frankfurt, aurologic offers unlit wavelength channels on their passive DWDM Mux equipment. With a short distance below 40km and in-built EDFA amplification, commodity DWDM transceivers are usually sufficient to reach towards Frankfurt am Main. Please note that we just provide a wavelength, the service does NOT include your transceivers or colocation space within carrier connectivity datacenters such as Digital Realty or Equinix Frankfurt.
Dark Fiber
aurologic doesnt offer dark fiber connectivity, however our FFM1 facility provides direct connections to selected dark fiber network providers. You can ask us for a list of the same, request a dark fiber connection with those parties and let us implement a crossconnect to the position of the party within the building. Please note, the same depends on availability and should be carefully planned. Certain networks are reachable with a longer lead-time.
Power
Every cabinet comes by default with a 2x 32A CEE 3P (1-Phase) plug-set. Each outlet is seperately UPS protected over diverse UPS - as well as features it's own fuse and power counter. Cabinets can be, depending on availability, upgraded up to 20kW usable power capacity. In such a case, the plug-set is replaced by 3-Phase 32A ones.
In terms of power billing, two types of billing are available:
- Per kW pre-commited power (at least 3kW) - 238.08€
- Per kWh metered power at 0.35€/kWh
Pre-Commited power is more cost effective, if you draw a continous base-line load. Metered power on the other hand provides more flexibility. Both can be combined, e.g. you can commit 3kW and at the other hand, use 5.6kW total. The difference of 2.6kW is billed as metered power.
Please note: Cabinets allow a power usage of 6kW by default, excluding power consumption - either pre-commited or metered.
